TESSELLATE PRESS · UPDATED OCTOBER 14, 2026

Your comics stay yours.

Free Comic Reader is a browser-based CBZ and PDF reader from Tessellate Press. Local reading does not require an account.

On this device

Imported files, cover thumbnails, reading positions, and library metadata are stored in your browser using IndexedDB. Reading preferences and the identifier of the last connected Drive account are stored locally. App files are cached for offline use. The reader does not include analytics or advertising trackers.

Other people using the same browser profile may see your local library. Browser storage may be cleared or evicted, particularly in private browsing. Keep your original files or a cloud copy.

Optional Google Drive connection

When enabled, connecting Google Drive opens Google’s sign-in and permission flow. The app requests permission to access files it creates or files explicitly authorized for it, using the drive.file permission. This version lists and opens only comic files saved through Free Comic Reader. It does not browse your entire Drive.

Choosing “Save to Drive” uploads that issue into a “Free Comic Reader” folder in your own Google Drive. The file includes app metadata such as a content fingerprint, page count, and reading position. While connected, reading positions are updated in that file’s metadata. Downloaded comics are cached on your device. Files are not made public or stored on Tessellate Press servers.

The app reads your Google account name, email address, and account identifier to label the connection and keep cloud libraries separate. Access tokens stay in memory for the current session; they are not stored in browser storage, sent to Tessellate Press, or included in the app’s offline cache.

Disconnecting and deleting

“Disconnect” clears the current app connection and hides that account’s cloud-only entries on this device. Downloaded data remains in browser storage until removed or cleared. To erase local data, remove issues from the library or clear site data in browser settings. Removing an issue locally does not delete its Drive copy.

Delete cloud files directly in Google Drive. Revoke the app’s permission at Google Account connections. Disconnecting here does not revoke your previous consent at Google.

Service providers

GitHub Pages delivers this website and may process ordinary web request information. When you connect Drive, your browser communicates directly with Google under Google’s privacy policy. Your use of Drive remains subject to your Google account’s storage limits.
